But the Sovereign who really put it on the map was Queen Victoria.  After selling the Royal Pavilion at Brighton for £26,000, she bought a property to the east of Cowes and under the direction of her beloved husband, Prince Albert, built a palace - Osborne House - that she called 'cosy'.

Priory Bay Hotel in the Isle of Wight has recently added 'designer camping' to the list of things they offer (along with individually designed rooms, a private beach and the hotel yacht, Infanta, available for charter).  Their hand-crafted yurts all overlook the beach, and are furnished to the highest standard (there's no skimping on comfort here, whatsoever), each are over 20 feet in diameter and include a sink-into king-size bed.
